The Registration "2015/2016 Travel Tryouts" is not currently available.
These are the try-out results/provisional team formation, not the final rosters. Many players decline their spots/try out in two age-groups so these teams may still shuffle and the Age Group Managers are currently working through those confirmations/declines with the coaches in their age-group. Unassigned players will be added as openings on rosters arise or assigned in coordination with another age group.
Registration is now open for BSC Try-Outs to form Fall 2015 and Summer 2016 teams. Please see the registration link on this page.
Players wishing to play in either or both of these travel seasons should attend try-outs in July 2015. The full schedule of try-out dates can be found in the pdf above.
Fee - Each try-out costs $30 (until June 30) which includes a try-out shirt which can also be used as a team training shirt and/or teams jersey during the fall season.
Registration Deadline - June 30 (after this date a late fee will apply)
Late Fee - If you register after the deadline a $20 late fee is added (no exceptions) and you will no longer be able to choose the exact size of your try-out shirt.
Why a deadline/late fee - A registration deadline is required so as Try-Out Shirts can be ordered on time and so as try-out staffing can be organized based on the number of registrations for each age-group.
The main portion of the overall team formation process is the club try-outs.
From the try-out the top group of players for each team is selected.
Other criteria used after try-outs to help form teams includes:
ZOOM REPORTS - All BSC head coaches are required to complete a report/evaluation after the season on all players on their team and submit to the club. This evaluation can be used by the club as a check/balance if a coach uses any coach picks after try-outs, for players that are ill/injured/unable to attend try-outs and also in cases where multiple players are ranked at the same level by the evaluators after the 2 hour try-out.
Coach Picks - Each coach has the option to use coach picks for the final team formation. A coach would use these for a player that was ill/injured/unavailable to try-out, specific field position (e.g GK) or if a player had a bad try-out and the coach can justify that the player typically performs to a much higher level (check/balance with Zoom Report)
Coach picks are allowed using the following guidelines:
U9/U10 teams - Top 9 players guaranteed spot on team from try-out/ Coach can have input/ use a coach pick up to a maximum of 3 players
U11/U12 teams - Top 10 players guaranteed spot on team from try-out/ Coach can have input/use a coach pick up to a maximum of 4 players
U13 - U17 teams - Top 12 players guaranteed spot on team from try-out/ Coach can have input/use a coach pick up to a maximum of 6 players
Please remember not all teams are set to the maximum roster size so the number of coach picks can be much less than the maximum number listed above.
A coach must give reasons for each pick and Zoom Report can be used as a check balance. Please note - Many coaches decide not to use coach picks and take the full roster in order as determined by the evaluators.
After Try-Outs a number of BSC staff/board and age group coordinators will work to finalize rosters as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience during this time an ask that parents not call with questions as this process is being completed. Many questions can be answered by going to the Q and A section under the "Travel" tab on the website.
On arrival at Try-Outs Players should do their own warm up until the group is called.
Activity 1 - Short Skills Warm Up - Movement in various directions, dribbling
Activity 2 - 3v3 small sided games
Activity 3 - 5v5/6v6/8v8 Games
Evaluators will be looking at each players individual technical ability, understanding of basic defending principals dependent on age (First Defender/Pressure, Second Defender/Cover, Third Defender/Balance), understanding of basic attacking principals dependent on age (First Attacker/Penetration, Second Attacker/Support, third Attacker/Mobility and Width) along with general involvement, work-rate and impact during games.
During Try-Outs it is requested that all parents that stay to watch the players play do so from the check-in/blue building area and not around the fields where the players are playing.
The team of evaluators is made up of High School Coaches from various high schools, paid travel coaches, Coaching Directors from other clubs and former college, high school and travel players.
As a group they will determine the final rankings on how the players performed on that day. The evaluators have no immediate connection or loyalty towards a team or age-group.
BSC Head Coaches that have applied to coach are also allowed onto the try-out fields to observe new players and to help them make coach picks after the try-out if they decide to do so.
